E Learning Courses - Intro to Marine Electrical Systems

This course is a beginning survey (not marine surveying) course. You will learn terminology, theory, and practical knowledge regarding marine electrical systems. Since this is a survey course, there is no hands-on component involved. If you have wired a boat, or assisted in wiring one, then this class will complement that experience. If you have not had any hands-on experience, that is fine too as this course's purpose is to teach you the theoretical knowledge involved in designing and specifying marine electrical systems. No college credit is awarded, as this is a professional-development course designed to help further your knowledge of the electrical system—the most important systems (except maybe the cedar bucket) in a boat. This course will introduce you to the concept of 12-volt DC marine electrical systems including their design, specification, and installation. You will also learn about basic electrical theory, wire sizing, marine electrical components, circuit protection, and installation procedures. The principles covered here also apply to multiple voltage boat systems (12-volt DC with 24-volt DC for example) but these systems are far more complex and are beyond the purpose of this course. Part One is a four-lesson course, including readings, forums, and quizzes. This is a work-at-your-own-pace course, and you will have access to course materials for 180 days.
